Carlos Castaneda speaks about how people spend most of their energy upholding their importance. So, what happens when the things you find important disappear, does your sense of importance as a person go out the door too? Pretty much. Unless….
Unless…. you’ve experienced the relief of releasing that weight. What freedom! So why, if it’s so freeing do we insist on holding on?
What are you holding onto right now that you ‘think’ is so important that you HAVE to drop everything else to tend to it? Kids? Job? Partner? Financial status? Maybe it’s the expensive car or a well manicured lawn. Notice I said financial ‘status’ not, prosperity. Or maybe, you’re holding onto a story, a grief or a loved one was passed on?
Value vs. importance …Would you hold to a person if you knew they didn’t want to stick around? No, you’d walk away yourself. But, it hurts. It hurts to feel like you’ve put in time, and energy and have done everything you possibly could hav done to set yourself up for success, only to realize – it’s over, or it really didn’t work out.
Perseverance is one thing, getting back up after getting knocked down is valuable, but when is enough….enough? If you have a wound that tells you, you’re not enough, or that it’s all your fault? You end up holding on way too long, way past the breaking point. There is a cycle of life – like in flowers or the moon, Imagine if the moon was FULL all the time – yikes!
Not many of us have been taught how to embrace change, we tend to see the end as a failure, or something wrong. But, that’s where the magic happens – it’s in the being happy that it happened as it was a stepping stone to the next great adventure! That, is valuable – that’s WORTH it. Once you’re aware love done everything you could have done for something that feels important – let it go. And no, the old saying that says if you let something go and it comes back to you – it was meant to be. What a temptation to stay in the impotence of it – instead of allowing the value to surface!
Replace the pressure of importance with the freedom of value!
